APPLE PIE  



APPLE PIE

serves	8
You will need a	21cm pie plate.
Chill the pastry while preparing the
apple. Bake at 180C(fan, pre-heated)
for 30-40 minutes on a hot baking tray

Ingredients

---pastry---
8oz	plain flour
2oz	unsalted butter
2oz	vegetable shortening
pinch of salt
4 tbsp	water 
milk to brush
 
---filling---
1 lb cooking apples,
  quartered and roughly sliced. 
1 1/2 brown , granulated or caster sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp cornflour 
a sprinkling of oats

1. Sift the flour and salt into a 
bowl. Cut the butter and shortening
into small pieces and rub in until 
the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. 
Add the water and mix to form a dough. 
Knead lightly.

2. Roll out two-thirds of the pastry 
and line a 21cm pie plate. Sprinkle 
some oats on top. Roll out the remaining
pastry for the lid. Put all of the pastry 
in the fridge. Then prepare the apple. 

3. In a bowl mix the apple, sugar, 
cinnamon and cornflour together. Spoon
the apple mixture into the pastry case.

4. Dampen the edge of the pastry with 
a little water and cover over with the 
pastry lid and crimp the edges. Make a
hole in the top  and glaze with milk.

5. Bake at 180C(fan), for 40 minutes.
